Axel Buettner is a Ph.D. student at the Institute of Space Systems of the University of Stuttgart. He received his Diploma-Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Stuttgart in 2010. During his specialization in the second half of the studies, he worked as a student assistant at the Institute of Applied and Experimental Mechanics as well as at the Institute of Statics and Dynamics of Space Structures of the University of Stuttgart where he could acquire detailed knowledge of the theoretical foundations of statics, dynamics, fracture mechanics and finite element modeling. In the framework of his final thesis, he spent six months at the Politecnico di Torino to work on “Classical and Mixed Elements with Various two-dimensional Assumptions in Finite Element Analysis of Multilayered Plates” in the research group of Professor Carrera.
