Summary

The great opportunity and, at the same time, the big challenge of this project relies on an innovative and integrated design approach to achieve an improved and optimized passenger cabin environment.

The proposed approach will be based on a multidisciplinary activity, integrating human factors and ergonomics knowledge and techniques as well as standard mechanical requirements. In fact, in the aerospace field the attention is often focused on maximizing some particular performance, which at the end should be integrated in a complex system such as an aircraft. The poor or low degree of integration can mitigate the response obtained at component level. With reference to the main topics as goal of the present project and in view of the expertise represented by each member of the consortium, a new scenario can be successfully researched and implemented. The innovation and ambition will be measured by the research and development of new ideas (which will be potentially improved continuously during the 6 years of the project) as well as by the degree of integration and the increasing complexity verification of the proposed solutions, methods and tools. An important strength of the project will be represented by the definition of themock-up at both numerical and experimental levels. This will consent to obtain more reliable and close to the flight conditions results. In this project, all concept solutions and developed technologies will be selected and validated during the first step phase, at a small scale level inside each branch (Human factors, Vibration and Acoustics, Environmental Friendly Materials). In a second and final step, the integration of the identified solutions will be tested and validated on the ground full-scale test bed platform. The main objective is to provide at the end of the project Innovative cabin items devoted to the a Human Centered cabin for Regional Aircraft and an Office Centered cabin for Business Jet aircraft to be tested with a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5.
